NOTE: These are the only records of this cemetery and we have typed them here as they were done by the DAR in the 1940's. We have checked and found no further evidence of this cemetery or it's stones anywhere. Truitt Cemetery is located some 150 feet south of US 112 in section 15 of Milton Township.
It is in a tiny plot immediate behind a house, southeast of Leet Road. Unkempt and unmowed, it is approximately 30 x 90 and enclosed by a low stone wall. There is one family stone with the lone inscription TRUITT and five headstones sunk into the ground with only the tops protruding.
Buried in the plot is Peter Truitt, born Feb 4, 1801, died Dec. 29, 1881. From the Cass County histories, by Rogers, Waterman and Watkins, Glover and Schoetzow, the graves would appear to be those of Peter Truitt, a son Langford born on or before April, 1829. Peter's second wife Isabel (McNitt) who died in 1834-35. Peter's third wife Deborah (McNitt) a sister of Isabel who died in 1841. And Peter's fourth wife Sarah (McNitt Lane) who died in 1882. Peter Truitt married his first wife, Mary Simpler on Feb 2, 1819. Her father was a revolutionary soldier, and also a soldier in the War of 1812. Their children were: John M. Elizabeth C. (Little), Henry and David.
