Adnson, Rinnert Albert - information found in obituary & census records. Immigrated to USA abt 1876 from Oslo, Norway.
Wife was Mina Goodwin b. June 1879 in Minnesota and 16 years of age at time of marriage. Rinnert and Mina had a total of 15 children. Three of the sons must have died at a very young age. Living children at time of various census reports were 12 in number as follows:
Most of the children were born in Cherokee Co., Iowa. Sadie b. Apr 1898 , Ruth abt 1902, Grace B abt 1903 m. Bowers she d. 1978, Amy b. abt 1909 m. an Albright , Norma G., 16 Feb 1910 m. Robert G. Stoner she d. 24 May 1997 (Norma & Robert buried Wills Baptist, this county),
  Ima 1914 , Iola 17 Feb 1914 m. Charles Bennitt and d. Sept 1979,  Elsie M. 23 Mar 1917 m. Verlin Kuhl and she d. 2 Nov 1976 in CA. and Robert 1920 d. 1981 in CA.
Census reports indicate that two of the children, Raymond & Grace were born in Wisconsin, all others born Wisconsin. Although the obit for Rinnert Adnson indicates that some of the daughters married names at the time of his death were Mrs. Irwin Sprague, Mrs. Barney Amon and Mrs. James Comis, I was not able to ascertain who matched with who.

Arnst, Miles – MC News, Galena Township, February 20, 1900 - Miles Arns(t), father of Mrs. Asa A. Heckman of this place and of Frank Arns(t) of Michigan City, died last Friday of dropsy after a long illness. His funeral was at Hesston Sunday.

Arnst, William Henry - Michigan City News, March 20, 1929 - William Henry Arnst, 322 1/2 Franklin street, died this morning at 6:15 o'clock following an illness of two weeks. Death was attributed to old age. Mrs. Arnst was a retired farmer. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Clara Keene of this city and two grand daughters, Mrs. W.D. Carter, of Michigan City, and Mrs. Glen Anderson of Chesterton, Ind. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. Funeral services will be held at ??.?? o'clock Friday afternoon in the Wilbur Funeral home and at 2:30 o'clock at the Heston church in Heston, Ind. The Rev. E.J. Egly will officiate. Burial will be in Heston, Ind. Friends may view the body in the Wilbur funeral home Thursday afternoon and Friday up until the time of the funeral.

Beal, Mrs. Harriet E. (Davis) - La Porte Argus-Bulletin, 23 October 1903 - Mrs. Harriet E. Beal, daughter of Rev. Caleb and Sarah Davis, and wife of William Beal, was born in Galena township July 23, 1855, and died at Rolling Prairie October 21, 1903, aged 48 years, 2 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage to William Beal November 1, 1877. Five daughters were born to bless this union, two of whom preceded their mother to the better land. Remaining to mourn their great loss are the husband and three daughters, Maude, Cora and Nellie. In 1884, in company with her husband she united with the United Brethren church. She was the sister of Mrs. Sarah Evans, of California, Dr. J. Davis, of New Carlisle, Hon. E. W. Davis, of Galena township, and Frank, Alpheus, Caleb and Jacob Davis, of Michigan. Mrs. Beal was held in great esteem by all with whom she came in contact and bore her long illness with patience and christian fortitude. The funeral will be held at her late home in Rolling Prairie Saturday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. Rev. C. B. Black officiating. Austin Cutler funeral director.

Beal, Jessie – Cemetery Not Listed, Possibly Heckman/Hesston - LaPorte Argus, December 15, 1892 (Galena News) Died, Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock, December 7, 1892, at her home, Miss Jessie Beal, eldest daughter of William and Harriet Beal, age 15 years.

Beal, Infant – Cemetery Not Listed, Possibly Heckman/Hesston - Westville Indicator August 1, 1895 - A special to the daily press says "The midget daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Beal, of Rolling Prairie died Wednesday. The infant is believed to have been the smallest piece of flesh born of human parents, weighing at birth but 24 ounces. She was born July 19 and lived five days. A teacup would entirely cover the head and the fingers were as thick as a rye straw. The wee bit of humanity could have been cradled in the smallest doll cab. She was tenderly nursed, but the park of life flickered and went out.”

Beal (Beall), William - Michigan City Evening News - March 31, 1914 - William Beall, a well known farmer, died at his home, half a mile west of Rolling Prairie Sunday night. He was born in Waterford, this county, and was 58 years, two months and 19 days old. Besides the widow, he leave three daughters. Cora and Maude Beall and Mrs. L.A. Massey, all of Rolling Prairie. The funeral will be held from the home at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. Rev. Noland, pastor of the Methodist church of Rolling Prairie, officiating. Interment will take place in the Hesston cemetery.

Beeman, Bert – Michigan City Evening News, April 22, 1908 – “Brothers-In-Law Killed; Die in Railroad Wreck” – Great Falls, Montana – Fred Garland, Michigan City, Ind., died here following injuries received in a wreck. Body will be shipped to Decatur, Mich., where deceased formerly resided. Bert A. Beeman, formerly of Laporte and Mishawaka, was killed in a wreck this morning in Montana according to word received in Laporte today. No details of the accident are known and it is possible that Beeman met death in the same accident of which Garland was a victim. Beeman was 27 years old, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Beeman of Hatch’s Mills, where his wife is now staying. Beeman went west a few weeks ago to seek a location. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lincoln Merrill of Laporte and Mrs. Thomas Blackburn of Bunker Hill.” Transcriber’s Note: There are two articles regarding this accident. Beeman, Corvando A. - Publication Unknown, June 1, 1920 - C.A. Beeman of Hesston, a Civil War veteran and a well known carpenter in that part of the county, died Sunday morning at the age of 76 years, death being due to heart trouble. He was born in New York and came to LaPorte Co., many years ago. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. T.F. Blackburn of Bluffside and Mrs. H.L. Coombs of Hatch's Mills. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Clarke R. Parker of LaPorte officiating. Burial was in Hesston cemetery.

Cooper, Elizabeth (Horner) – Michigan City News, December 13, 1916 - The News has been handed the following obituary of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper, whose death occurred a few days ago at her home near Hatches Mills: Elizabeth Horner was born April 1, 1841, in Laporte county, Indiana, and was married to Stephen Cooper May 10, 1959. To this union were born three boys and three girls, two girls dying in infancy. One son, George B. Cooper, died Feb. 11, 1896 in San Antonio, Tex., where he had gone for his health. Another son, Frank, died April 20, 1897. Mrs. Cooper had been in poor health for years, and passed away at her home in Hatches Mills at 8:30. She leaves to mourn her loss, her sorrowing husband, who has been confined to his bed almost constantly for the past six months, one son, Melvin, of Craig, Colo., and one daughter, Mrs. Stella Mayes, who has cared for her parents for the past four years, two grandchildren, Oliver Slater, of Springville township, and Miss Dora Cooper, of Laporte, besides other relatives and many friends. She united with the Christian church 35 years ago. Rev. Vanorman, of Hatches Mills, had charge of the funeral services. Those from away who were present were: Mrs. Fecha Dills, Osola, Ind., a niece of the deceased; Mrs. Gust Long and Mrs. Lydia Russell, of Michigan City. Burial was at Hesston cemetery on Tuesday morning.

Dietz, Robert – Michigan City News Dispatch, May 31, 1931 – Robert Dietz, 74, a resident of Springfield Twp., died at 2 p.m. yesterday at St. Anthony hospital. He was born Dec. 24, 1866, the son of Alexander and Gertrude (Mangold) Dietz, both deceased. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Oman, La Porte county; Mrs. Edna Lundquist, Michigan City, and a brother, Leonard, Chicago; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Monday at Heston Christian church with Rev. D.C. Ford officiating. Burial will be in Heckman’s Memorial cemetery, Heston. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral home from 2 Saturday until the hour of the service.

Fuller, Wilbur W. - Michigan City News, Nov. 24, 1904 - W.W. Fuller, a resident of this county since 1835, died Tuesday at his home in Rolling Prairie, aged seventy-four years. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Wesley Mayes, of La Porte and one son, Dr. Carl D. Fuller of Bourbon. He was a veteran of the Civil War. The funeral was held on Thursday at Rolling Prairie, the G.A.R. attending in a body .

Gardner, Cinderella (Rhodes) – Michigan City Evening Dispatch, March 30, 1926 – Following an illness extending over a period of several weeks, Mrs. Cinderella Gardner died at 3 o’clock on Monday afternoon at St. Anthony’s hospital. Death was due to cancer. Mrs. Gardner was born at Bloomington, Ill., on Aug 15, 1851. She was married to Michael Gardner, who preceded her in death several years ago. Surviving are two children: Mrs. Louis A. Godin of Galena township and Lewis T. Gardner of Oakland, Cal. A brother, Samuel Rhodes of Bloomington, Ill., also survives. Funeral services fro Mrs. Gardner will be held at 1 o’clock on Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis A. Godin (Heckman residence), Galena township. Burial will be in the Hickman (s/b Heckman) cemetery. Rev. Donald C. Ford will officiate. Mrs. Gardner has always lived in Bloomington, Ill., until a short time ago when she came here to make her home with her daughter.

Hatfield, William – Michigan City Dispatch, November 2, 1905 – William Hatfield of Galena township died last Monday of old age and general debility. He was eighty years old and had lived in the county sixty years. Mr. Hatfield leaves one daughter, Mrs. William Harley of Laporte. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at Rosenburg (Rossburg?) and the burial was at the Hesston cemetery.

Heckman, Artimus (Asa Artimus) – Michigan City Evening Dispatch, September 24, 1926 – Asa Artimus Heckman, of Hatch’s Mills, rural free delivery two, Box 61, Laporte, died at 5 o’clock this morning, his death having been due to paralysis, gangrene in one foot and pneumonia. He was born on June 26, 1851. Mr. Heckman was a farmer for many years. Mrs. Heckman preceded him in death. Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Austin of Denver, Col.; four grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. L. Deprey of Laporte, and Mrs. Rachel Merchant, who resides near Laporte, and three brothers, B. F. Heckman of Hatch’s Mills, Miller Heckman of Elkhart and R. Heckman of Marshall, Mich. The funeral will be held at 1 o’clock next Tuesday afternoon from the Hesston church. Rev. Donald C. Ford, pastor of the First Christian church of this city, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hesston cemetery.

Heckman, Caroline “Carrie” Stites - Galena Gleanings, MC News November 1900 - "Died, at her home near Hesston November 18, of consumption, Mrs. Carrie (Stites) Heckman. The funeral occurred Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the home of deceased and interment took place at Pine Lake cemetery." MC Weekly News 5 Dec 1900 - "The last will and testament of the late Mrs. Caroline Heckman of Galena township was Saturday filed for probate in the office of County Clerk McClung. The testatrix leaves all of her cattle to her husband, Benjamin F. Heckman, and the rest of her estate is equally divided between her two children, Isaac N. and Rachel M. Heckman,. William H. Stites is made executor of the will, which was executed March 31, 1898."

Heckman, Issac – Michigan City News Final Edition, August 19, 1932 – Issac Heckman, 47 years old, died in the Holy Family hospital in Laporte Thursday, following an operation for appendicitis. Heckman was taken to the hospital Monday for the operation, but he failed to rally. He had been a resident of Galena township all his life. He was not married but lived with his mother, Mrs. Mary Heckman, who survives him. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, Standard Time, in the Heston Christian church with Rev. Thomas, of Rolling Prairie, officiating. Burial will be in the Heston cemetery, beside the church. Pallbearers will be Albert Moss, Leo Schumaker, Henry Burkholtz, Arthur Burkholtz, Edward Krueger and George Pagle.

Heckman, Melissa (Morrow) – Michigan City Evening News, November 13, 1913 – Mrs. David Heckman, aged 71, died Tuesday night at her home at Rolling Prairie. She had been in ill health for some time, but was taken with a stroke of apoplexy and died within a few minutes. She is survived by the husband, and one daughter, Mrs. George M. Leliter of near Rolling Prairie. Mr. and Mrs. Heckman were old residents of Galena township until a year ago, when they moved to Rolling Prairie. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at the residence and burial will be at Hesston cemetery.

Heckman, Mina (Snow) – Michigan City News, April 8, 1908 – Mrs. Asa Heckman of Hatch’s Mills died while being taken to the Holy Family hospital in Laporte for an operation Thursday morning. Her body was taken to the home of Enoch Preston and was later removed to her home .

Heckman, Myrtle (Seward) - Michigan City Evening Dispatch, January 28, 1934 - Mrs. Myrtle Seward Heckman, age 56, a native of La Porte county, passed away Friday morning in South Bend. She was born at Hatch's Mills, this county, on March 12, 1878. She moved to South Bend 28 years ago. She was married in 1905 to Albert Miller Heckman in La Porte. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Mildred Heckman; two sisters, Mrs. S.C. Hunt and Mrs. Harry Turner, and two brothers, Norman A. Seward of this city, and George C. Seward of Harvey, Ill. Funeral services were held this afternoon in South Bend.

Heckman, Rachel (Paddock) – From "The Jacob Heckman Family, LaPorte County, Indiana", by Agnes Merchant; Rachel Paddock was born in Onondaga Co., New York March 27, 1821. She taught public school at the age of 15 years in the state of New York, then came with her parents Levi and Marinda Paddock to Indiana. She and her mother made the trip in a sail boat the length of the great lakes landing at Michigan City in 1836. She taught public school in log school houses in Michigan and Indiana. Receiving at first $1.50 per week, later $2.00 per week until she was married in 1842. Grandpa Paddock and his son, Asa, drove through from New York to Indiana and Michigan. Diary of Arthur C. Davis 1892 - Jan. 19: Mrs. Theodric Heckman died this evening at 7 p.m. in the eastern edge of Springfield Twp......Jan 22: Mrs. Rachel Heckman was buried today at Christian Church, yard funeral at the same place. She was born in Onondaga Co., N.Y. in 1821. Came to this County in 1837. Married to Theodric Heckman in 1841. Mother of 11 children, 6 of whom survive her.

Heckman, Theodrick – The Acorn (Three Oaks, MI), Jan. 9, 1903 – Mr. Ava Theodrick Heckman, an old resident of Hesston, died Friday, January 2, 1903, at the home of his son, Miller. T.A. Heckman was born in Virginia, February 24, 1820, and was married to Miss Rachel Paddock in 1842. He settled in Galena township in 1835 and has lived in LaPorte county about sixty seven years. Mrs. Heckman died January 19, 1892. One of his sons, Erasmus, is the Three Oaks township supervisor at the present time. His other sons are Frank and Ace. He also leaves two married daughters. Gall stones were the direct cause of his death. The funeral was held in the Hesston church on January 5, conducted by Elder Black, of Rolling Prairie. Interment was made at Hesston. The LaPorte Herald, Saturday, Jan. 3, 1903 "Theodore Heckman, one of the pioneer settlers of Galena township, died at his home Friday at the age of more than 80 years. He came to the township in 1835, with his father, Jacob Heckman. The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his late residence."
  Argus Bulletin, Jan 3, 1903 - "T.L. Heckman, a pioneer resident of Galena township, passed away yesterday at the noon hour. He was past eighty years of age and death was due to the infirmities of his years. He was one of the early settlers of the county and had for years been a prominent farmer. He is survived by a brother, Jacob Heckman. Four sons, Miller, Asa, Frank and Erasmus, and one daughter also survive."

Hein, Adam – Michigan City News Final Edition, August 11, 1932 – Funeral services for Adam Hein, 86 years old, who died Tuesday at his home on rural route 1, La Porte, near New Buffalo, Michigan, were held at the O.M. Haverstock chapel and at the Hesston Christian Church this afternoon, Rev. J. N. Thomas officiated. Burial was made in the Hesston Cemetery.

Horner, Myrtle – Publication Unknown, April 1887 – The only child of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Horner, of Springfield township, a girl about fifteen years old died April 21, 1887, and was buried in the Heckman graveyard at the Christian church in Heston. The services were conducted by Elder Thomas Webster. The sympathy of the neighborhood go with Mr. and Mrs. H. Horner.

Keene, Clara Louise (Arnst) – Michigan City News Dispatch, November 8, 1947 – Clara Louise Keene, 69, 2957 Wrobel, died at 1:50 p.m. yesterday in St. Anthony hospital after a short illness. She had been a resident of this city since 1920. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Marvin Haas funeral home with Rev. Floyd H. Pence officiating. Burial will be in Heston. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday until the hour of service. Mrs. Keene was born Nov. 27, 1877, in Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Arnst. She was married Dec. 12, 1897, in New Buffalo, to Frank Keene, who preceded her in death in 1909. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Iseminger, this city; and Mrs. Charles Ritzler, Buchanan, Mich.; and four grandchildren. The deceased had been a member of the First Christian church, Women’s Relief Corps, Daughters of America, Royal Neighbors, Women’s Benefit Assn. and the Conservation club.

Lewis, Uriah – Daily Republican, July 31, 1888 – Uriah Lewis, son of John Lewis and Eleanor Cadwallader, was born on the 19th day of Eleventh month, 1828, in Highland Co., Ohio. He came with his parents to LaPorte Co., Ind. In 1836. He married Elizabeth Heckman on the 20th day of Eighth month, 1854, and for the first ten years of his married life resided in Berrien Co., Mich. He was the father of four children, of whom but one survives him. He died last Fifth day, 26th day of Seventh month, 1888, and was laid away at the Heckman burying ground, Dr. Dakin officiating. Maerz, Fred – Michigan City News, April 8, 1938 – Fred Maerz, a farmer living south of here in LaPorte county, died Thursday in the Holy Family hospital in La Porte. He had been ill for one year but had been confined to the hospital for only one day. Mr. Maerz was born April 19, 1894 in Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Minnie and eight children, Mrs. J. Hillham of Springfield township, Miss Ada Maerz of Mishawaka and Lester, Hilda, Harriet, Kenneth, Harvey and Bernice at home and one sister, Mrs. Edward Schultz of Michigan City and one brother, Edward Maerz of Springfield township. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Heston Christian church. Rev. Louis Kling will officiate. Burial will be in Heston.

Mayes, Emily (Jones) – MC News, Galena Township, June 27, 1900 - Died, at her home near Hatch's Mills, after a long illness, Emma (s/b Emily), wife of James Mayes. Funeral took place Tuesday, at 2 p.m.; Interment was at Hesston. Mrs. Mayes leaves a husband and five children, besides many relatives and a host of loving friends to mourn her sad demise.

Mayes, James – Michigan City Evening Dispatch, March 6, 1913 – James Mayes died at his home in Galena township Tuesday evening at the age of 70 years. He leaves his widow, five children, one step-son and seven grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Ben Wing, living near Laporte; Mrs. Edith Cooper, Denver, Col.; Mrs. Maud Parks, Davenport, Ia., and Edward and Harry, New Buffalo, Mich.; step-son, Oliver Slater, who is at home. On Aug 31, 1865, he was married to Emily Jones, who preceded him 13 years ago. Four years later he married Mrs. Stella Slater, who survives him. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m . at the home and services will be held at Hesston church at 10?45. Burial at Hesston cemetery.

Oman, Mamie (Dall) – Michigan City News, July 9, 1919 – Mrs. Ervin Oman, 413 Dewey street, died early Friday morning following complications caused by childbirth. The baby a week old survives. Mamie Dall was born in Laporte June 2, 1899, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dall, residing three and a half miles south of New Buffalo. Two years ago she was united in marriage to Ervin Oman and to that union the one child, a son, was born. Besides the mourners at home she leaves one brother, Harry Dall, and one sister, Mrs. Stephen Towalski, the latter of East Chicago. The funeral will be held from the home of her parents, three and a half miles south of New Buffalo at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.

Replogle, John – Michigan City News, October 21, 1891 – Mr. John Replogle, residing near Rolling Prairie, died at his home, Monday forenoon. The deceased was about 72 years of age, and was for many years a resident of Laporte county. The cause of his death was a catarrhal affection of the stomach, with which he had been troubled a long time. He was confined to his bed, however, only about one week. An aged wife, at home, a son in this city and one daughter, Mrs. C. B. Hewitt, in South Bend, survive to mourn his death.

Rumbaugh, Andrew Jackson - Andrew Jackson Rumbaugh, 88, of route 3, La Porte , died at 7:45 o'clock last night at the Fairview hospital. The son of James and Melissa Rumbaugh, he was born in Eldora , Ia. , on May 21, 1859, and had lived in LaPorte county nearly all his life. He was a retired farmer. On Nov. 18, 1880, in New Buffalo, he was married to Christine Engle, who died 10 years ago. Surviving are two sons, Roy and William Rumbaugh, both of LaPorte; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Ida Shippee, died in 1946. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Haverstock chapel with the Rev. M. E. Reinke officiating. Burial will be in Heston cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from Thursday noon until the time of the funeral. LaPorte Herald Argus, June 17, 1947.

Rumbaugh, Christina E. (Engle) - Mrs. Christina Engle Rumbaugh, 72, died at 7:30 this morning at the residence of her son, Roy Rumbaugh in Galena township. She was born in Porter county May 20, 1864, the daughter of John and Sophia Engle. She had lived in Galena township most of her life. On Nov. 18, 1880 she was united in marriage at New Buffalo, Mich., to Andrew J. Rumbaugh, who survives. Mrs. Rumbaugh was a member of the Springville Free Methodist church. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Roy and William Rumbaugh; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Shippee, Springfield township. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. One brother, Martin Engle, preceded her in death. Short funeral services will be held at the E. E. Ebbert chapel at 1:45 Friday. There will be services at the Hesston church at 2:30 . Burial will be in the Hesston cemetery with E. E. Ebbert in charge. The body may be viewed at the chapel tomorrow and until time for the funeral. LaPorte, Apr 21, 1937

Rumbaugh, James - James Rumbaugh, of Springfield township, died Thursday afternoon at 3:20 at the age of almost 90 years, after an illness of five weeks, from the infirmities of old age. The decedent was born in Ohio on July 5, 1831 , but lived here for sixty years, being by occupation a farmer. He married Melissa Bailey in 1851, and was a member of the Christian church. He leaves five children, - Mrs. Mary Van Dusen, Mrs. Ida Woodward and A. J. Rumbaugh of Galena Township , Walter M. Rumbaugh, of Springfield Township . He also leaves two brothers, Albert Rumbaugh, of Springfield Township . He in Kansas , and also one sister, Mrs. Lucinda Nolton, in California . The funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Histon (Hesston) Church, and interment will take place at the Histon (Hesston) Cemetery, with E. E. Ebbert in charge. Rumbaugh, John H. - John H. Rumbaugh, age 73, of Galena township, died Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fairview hospital. He was born in Galena township on April 18, 1867 , the son of James and Melissa Bailey Rumbaugh, and had lived in LaPorte county all of his life. He was never married. Surviving are two brothers, A. J. Rumbaugh of Galena township and Walter Rumbaugh of Galien , Mich. ; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Hartman of rural route No 3, LaPorte and Mrs. Mary Van Dusen of Michigan City and a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Ebbert and Giese funeral home. The Rev. Clayton H. Wilson will officiate and burial will be in the Hesston cemetery. Rumbaugh, Melissa (Bailey) - Mrs. James Rumbaugh, for many years a resident of this county, died at 11:30 last evening at her home in Springfield township after an illness of three or four years with paralysis. Mrs. Rumbaugh was 86 years, 5 months and 22 days old and was born in Ohio , and had lived in this county since her marriage to James Rumbaugh. She was a member of the Christian church and a good wife and mother. Besides the husband, she leaves four sons, Walter, Andrew, Hamilton and John, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary VanDusen and Ida Woodward, all of this county or vicinity. Seward, Mary (Hess) - Michigan City News, March 15, 1899, Page 1, Col. 4; Mrs. Mary Seward, wife of L.T. Seward, of Hatch's Mills and mother of Norman E. Seward, of this city, died about 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the family home in Galena township after a brief illness from typhoid pneumonia. Mrs. Seward had been bedfast only since Saturday and her death came as a sudden shock to her many friends. Mary Hess, which was the maiden name of the deceased, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Hess, deceased, and was born in Delaware county, New York, fifty-five years ago. With her parents she moved when a child to Galena township and with the exception of the few years residence in Dowagiac and Cassopolis, Mich., and Laporte had been a continual resident of Galena. She leaves one sister, Mrs. H.E. Smith, of Galena township, and a husband and six adult children. The children are: Mrs. Amos Wasson, Hesston; Mrs. Schuyler Hunt, Rolling Prairie; Norman E., Michigan City; Charles, New Buffalo and Miss Myrtle and Geo. A. Seward residing at home. Mrs. Seward was a woman of exceeding high character and she will be greatly missed.

Seward, Theron A. – Michigan City News, January 11, 1927 - Theron A. Seward, 87, father of Norman A. Seward, manager of the Merchants Mutual Telephone company, died at 8:30 o'clock last night in the Holy Family hospital, in Laporte. Mr. Seward was well known in this city. In addition to his son in this city, he leaves one other son, George Seward, in Harvey, Ill., and three daughters, Mrs. Harry Turner, Union Mills; Mrs. Nellie Hunt, Laporte, and Mrs. Myrtle Heckman, South Bend. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, with services in the Cutler Brothers chapel, in Laporte. Burial will be in Hesston, Ind.

Shippee, Paul Rolland – Michigan City News, April 9, 1919 – Paul Rolland Shippee, four-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Shippee, residing ten miles east of the city, died on Wednesday, March 26, of spinal meningitis. The little son had been sick for about three weeks. He was three years, eleven months and twenty days of age. Paul was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Shippee and he is survived by two elder brothers and a baby sister. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock. Burial will be in the Hesston cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Shippee have the sincere sympathy of their neighbors and many friends in their deep sorrow.

Slater, John H. - Michigan City News, Sept. 19, 1901 - John H. Slater, whose death was noted yesterday, was born June 24, 1846, in Springfield township and resided there until 16 years ago when he and his family moved to Michigan City. He was married January 28, 1882, to Miss Stella Cooper, the widow who survives. He leaves a son, Oliver, and three brothers, David and Josephus Slater, and Richard Slater, of Springfield township; also one sister, Mrs. B. Riley of Wyoming. Mr. Slater was a veteran of the civil war, having served his country faithfully and well for three years. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. at Hesston.

Stanage, Edith (Sands) – Herald Argus (La Porte), January 14, 1944 – Mrs. Edith E. Stanage of 302 Oak Street, Three Oaks, died at 4:30 o’clock this morning at the Holy Family hospital following an operation. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Sands, she was born on Jan. 6, 1890 and had lived in Three Oaks for 37 years. She and her husband operated a grocery store in Three Oaks. She was a member of the Free Methodist church. Surviving are her husband, Claude, Sr.,; one son, Claude, Jr. of Dowagiac; two grandchildren and five brothers. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Friends may call at the Lake Funeral home in Three Oaks. Waldruff, Margaret – Michigan City News, January 2, 1895 – Died, on Thursday, Dec. 27, 1894, Mrs. Margeret Waldruff, better known as “Aunt Margeret Waldruff,” She was among the very last of the original settlers of Galena township and was the first white woman here. She came in 1834 and with the exception of short trips made to Pennsylvania and Texas she has lived here with her daughter, Mrs. Horner. She was nearly 90 years old. Funeral and interment at Hesston. Wilson, Sarah (Mayes) – Daily Argus Bulletin (La Porte), May 29, 1907 – Mrs. Sarah Wilson died in her home in Galena township at 8 o’clock last evening. She had suffered with heart disease and other complications for the past three years, and they were the cause of death. The funeral will be on Friday morning, with service in the Hesston chapel at 10:30 o’clock conducted by Rev. Mr. Reder of Rolling Prairie. The burial will be in the Hesston cemetery, Weir & Sievert being in charge. Mrs. Wilson was born on the place and in the home in which she died. She was 58 years old, being born on November 17, 1848. She had no children. Three brothers and two sisters survive – James and William Mayes, of Galena township, Wesley Mayes of this city, Mrs. Mary McDuffy of Wolcott, Ind., and Mrs. Deborah Borus of this county. As the daughter of Matthew Mayes, who came fro Pennsylvania and settled in Galena township in 1834, Mrs. Wilson was related to many of the best families in the county. Her father was a prominent citizen of this day, farming 400 acres in section 18 on the Michigan line. Her husband, Ellicott Wilson, was one of the 100 victims of the Astabula railroad wreck on December 29, 1876, a few years after their marriage.
