Hanna Cemetery

Updated April 19, 2008- Hanna Cemetery is a last resting place for many of the areas inhabitants. Hanna Cemetery is located in Section 8 Townshiip 34 Range 3.. It is at the West edge of the town of Hanna. Thank you Pat VanDierendonck for entering these older records for submission to the WWW for our Internet viewers.
In a brief history of Willvale cemetery it states that the cemetery was abandoned and graves moved to Hanna. This explains why we see graves that are older than t he deed of sale date of 1885 for the cemetery land.

November 30, 1886 - We, George S. Dennison, Joseph N. Phipps, William West, Julius T. Keil, Robert Cowder, William Cowden and Thomas L. Patrick all of the County of La Porte and State of Indiana do hereby associate ourselves together as a voluntary association under the laws of the State of Indiana for the purpose of holding suitable grounds for the Burials of the dead near the village of Hanna in the said County ahd State upon the terms and conditions following that is to say 1st. the name of this Association and in which all business shall be transacted shall be the "Hanna Cemetery Association. wnd the business affairs of the association shall be m anaged by five directors who shall hereafter be elected in such manner as may be perscribed by the by laws of the association. .....

William and Lucinda D. Powell sold the deed to the land for this cemetery on Dec. 11, 1885
