The new sign installed at Low Cemetery was part of the Eagle Scout project by Jordan Niegos. The rest of his project included painting the fence, cutting down unwanted bushes and cutting low hanging limbs from the trees, this portion of his project was approved by the Pioneer Cemetery Commission, along with the placement of a Historical Sign. However, sometimes history gets shifted or misinterpreted. Although there are many Low ancestors buried here, they weren't the originators of the cemetery.
We asked Fern Eddy Schultz for some historical facts and she added this.
John and Nancy Vanmatre/Vanmeter set aside this area prior to 1840 for a "meeting house sight and cemetery."
Subsequent owners of surrounding area were Hezekiah & Fanny Bussey and Oliver Sanders.
The area, with the exception of the cemetery, was deeded to Mary Barker Low in 1849. She was the wife of Daniel Low and sister of John Barker.
There are eighteen Civil War veterans buried here and one Revolutionary War veteran.
Daniel and Mary (Barker) Low and their three children (Augustus B., Charles Otis and Mary E. Low Mudge) are also buried here.
