Shippeeburg sits up on a rise and there is quite a view from it of the surrounding area and Wilhelm Road. The tombstone photo's taken here were done in May 2001 when Linda Shortt, Holly Jenks, Gloria Arndt and myself were examining the cemetery. Holly along with her crew went out cleaned up the grounds a day or two later. Hope you enjoy these pictures

Donated Obituaries
Harrington, Henry B. - Mr. (Herrington) was born in Franklin county, Ohio, June 9, 1830, and died at the home of his son, Orlando, in Galena, Nov. 5, 1893. The funeral was held at the Shippeeburg school house, Nov. 7. The Baptist minister of New Buffalo, Rev. Mr. Spafford officated. Mr. Herrington was a soldier in the late war and a member of the G.A.R. He requested to be laid away according to the rites and ceremonies of that order. Quite a large number of the G.A.R.'s came out from La Porte and respectfully and tenderly laid away their comrade in the Shippeeburg cemetery. Source: Daily Herald, Wednesday, November 8, 1893
Mrs. Alfretta Shippee - Oct 19, 1928 - Shippeeburg Cem - Mrs. Alfretta Shippee, age 70, wife of Adam Shippee, 204 Ohio street, died this morning. She was born March 8, 1858, in LaPorte county, living here all her life. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen. She was married March 16, 1873, to Mr. Shippee in Three Oaks, Mich. Surviving are Mr. Shippee; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Pagels of La Porte county and Mrs. Adam Siegmund of New Buffalo, Mich.; a son, Oscar Shippee of La Porte county; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Emma Huntley of Logan, Ia., and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Springville church at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Shippeeburg cemetery with E.E. Ebbert in charge.
Adam Shippee - September 28, 1933 - Shippeeburg Cem - Funeral services for Adam Shippee, age 79, of 204 Ohio street, who passed away at his home yesterday after an illness of four days with a complication of diseases, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Haverstock chapel. The Rev. Edgar I. Mitschelen will officiate and burial will be in the Shippeeburg cemetery with O.M. Haverstock in charge. The body may be viewed after 4 p.m. today and until the time of the funeral tomorrow at the Haverstock chapel. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Nehemiah Shippee, the deceased man was born in Springfield township, this county, on May 13, 1854. He had lived in this county all his life, moving into La Porte six years ago. Surviving him are one son, Austin Shippee of rural route 3; two daughters, Mrs. Fred Pagels, route 3, and Mrs. Adam Siegmund of LaPorte; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife, Mrs. Alfretta Shippee, preceded him in death five y ears ago.
Amanda Shippee - May 14, 1923 - Amanda Shippee, age 56, wife of Hiram Shippee, Springfield township, passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital in Michigan City at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. She had been ill about 18 months. Mrs. Shippee was born at Newark, O., Jan. 6, 1867. She came to La Porte county when 16 years old and had lived here until the day of her death. In 1865 (note: this date does not make sense, based on her birth date) she was married to Hiram Shippee at New Buffalo. Besides her husband, Mrs. Shippee is survived by eight children. They are Otis Shippee at home, Carl Shippee of La Porte, Hattie Wiltfong of La Porte, Lula Sargent of Elkhart, Clifford Shippee of Michigan City, Osborn Shippee at home, Beulah (?)dedrich of La Porte and Hosea Shippee at home. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are Samuel Agnew of Shaler, Ia., Abe Agnew of La Porte, Callie Taylor of Shaler, (?) and Kate King of Neward, O. The funeral services will be held at the Springville church at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Mr. Wilkin of Springville will be in charge. Burial will be in the Shippeeburg cemetery. The remains may be viewed at the Ebbert undertaking parlors in this city.
Ray, Mrs. Henry - Mrs. Henry Ray, who came here last fall from Ohio, died of scrofula Friday, March 6th, 1896. Sunday afternoon brief but impressive services were held at her late home, conducted by Elde E. W. Davis. Interment in the Shippee cemetery. Deceased leaves a husband, one daughter and three sons.
